Cape Bojeador Lighthouse

Cape Bojeador Lighthouse, also known as Burgos Lighthouse, situated in Burgos, Ilocos Norte, was established during the Spanish regime. It was declared a National Historical Landmark on August 13, 2004 and a National Cultural Treasure on June 20, 2005 by the Philippine Government.

From the parking lot, tourists walk up a number of steps to reach the main entrance. Once on the top, the place offers a good view of the South China.

If one is seeking basic accommodation, tourists can stay for lodging at the pavilion at a minimal rate. Just don't expect anything grand for there are no amenities except from shared cooking facilities and water.

Access to the tower depends on the outside wind condition and only a certain number of people are allowed in the tower at a time.

We visited Cape Bojeador Lighthouse on the month of April. It was humid. To feel and enjoy the cold winds coming from China’s winter, the residents recommended the best months to visit is from November to January.

Malacanang of the North

When we visited Ilocos last 2009 I was happy to know that one of the itineraries was to visit Malacanang of the North.

During the late President Ferdinand Marcos regime, Malacanang of the North was the official residence of the Marcos family whenever they visit Ilocos. It is also the venue where the Marcoses entertained well-known personalities in different sectors of the land, and yes high profile personalities from different countries, too.

When the former president was ousted in 1986, Malacanang of the North was transformed into a museum housing most of the late president's mementos.

The enormous rooms, fixtures and furnitures are indicative of the opulence of its former residents. It is impressive to note that the place is well-kept.

Paoay Church

What sets Paoay Church apart from the many churches in the country is because of its three-dimensional visual experience from all its angle.

Fr. Antonio Estavillo started the church in 1694, was completed in 1710, and rededicated in 1896. The materials they used were coral stones and bricks to be earthquake-resistant. Alicia Coseteng dubbed Paoay Church as "Earthquake Baroque".

Though the church looks ascetic and barren inside, one can sense the magnificence and rich history that unfolds the whole of Paoay Church.
